GV SHAMELESS HEIDI (OFA Excellent, CERF Normal)

Shameless Heidi is an intense field dog (i.e., gun dog) and comes from some of the most distinguished and celebrated German Shorthaired Pointers (Deutsch Kurzhaar) of the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries.  Shameless Heidi was sired by National Field Champion LB’s Ohi Shameless, and her dam is Grassy Valley Annie.  Within her recent ancestry are also renowned dogs such as Field Champion Dixieland Rusty (the leading sire of Shorthair Field Champions), Dual Champion Hidden Hollow’s Ronlord Ruler, National Field Champion Thalberg’s Seagraves Chayne, Dual Champion Golden West Chucko, Dual Champion Oxton’s Minado von Brunz, Dual Champion Oxton Bride’s Brunz v. Greif, Dual Champion Cede Mein Dolly Der Orrian, the prepotent Champion Adam von Fuehrerheim (the leading sire of Shorthair Show Champions), Field Champion Uodibar’s Boss Man, Field Champion Tip Top Timmy, and Jack Shattuck’s famous Rusty v. Schwarenberg (the first Shorthair Field Trial Champion and the first Shorthair Dual Champion, sired by Mars v. Ammertal).  Of course, Dr. Charles Thornton was one of the most important importers and breeders of Shorthairs, and among the most potent Thornton Shorthairs in Shameless Heidi’s ancestry are Champion Yunga War Bride and Champion Alnor’s Brown Mike.

Through the decades, many German Shorthairs have been imported into North America, with the period following the Second World War being one of the most prolific.  For example, Richard Johns engaged in negotiation with famous breeder Peter Kraft of Germany for the purchase of Kurzhaar Sieger Sepp von Gräbenbruch (the first Kurzhaar Sieger, that is, “Shorthair Champion,” imported into the United States) and Nanny v. Lückseck (the sire and dam of the American Dual Champion Blick v. Grabenbruch).  Richard Johns also imported the famous Kay v. d. Wildburg (whelped in Germany), a dog that became a Dual Champion and National Field Champion.  Kurzhaar Sieger Franko Beckum (the sire of famed Field Champion Bobo Grabenbruch Beckum) was owned by H.F. Seiger (Max Jürgens of Münster was the breeder) and became one of the most important imports.  Naturally it can be stated with certitude that Esser’s Chick (a German import out of Axel v. Wasserschling) has had a profound impact on American shorthairs: Esser’s Chick was the sire of Dual Champion Esser’s Duke v. d. Wildburg as well as National Field Champion Blick v. Shinbach.  Among the most famous Danish imports was Hjalmar Olsen’s International Field Champion Moesgaard’s Ib (the sire of Dual Champion and National Field Champion Moesgaard’s Dandy) and Field Champion Tell.  Of course, Field Champion Greif v. Hundsheimerkogel was one of the most important imports from Austria.  Within the ancestry of GV Shameless Heidi are all of these Shorthairs as well.  Moreover, more than twenty of the dogs in Shameless Heidi’s ancestry are in the German Shorthair Hall of Fame, and many of these are dual champions, that is, Shorthairs with success both in the field and in the show ring.

During the era before the Second World War, German breeders developed some most impressive Shorthairs, with capabilities and conformation that became the standards throughout the world.  Among these were Kurzhaar Sieger Kobold Mauderode Westerholt (whelped 1930), Kurzhaar Sieger Benno v. Schlossgarten (whelped 1926), Reichs Sieger and Welt Sieger Heide von der Beeke (whelped 1934, sired by Treff Waldhausen), M. Gschwindt’s Kurzhaar Sieger Frei Südwest (whelped 1930).  Of course, among the most foundational Shorthairs of the early twentieth century are Artus Sand (whelped 1921) and Christian Bode’s Mars Altenau (whelped 1914).  Among the Shorthairs in the lineage of Artus Sand and Mars Altenau are Tellus von Freudenthal (whelped 1893), Morrell Hoppenrade ZK444 (whelped 1888, sired by Waldin 175), Hektor 64 (whose grandsire was the famed Nero 66), Wodan Hektor II v. Lemgo (whelped 1888), and Treff 1010 (whelped 1881).  All of these Shorthairs are present in Shameless Heidi’s ancestry as well.  Ultimately, the lineage of Shameless Heidi is most distinguished, hailing from some of the greatest Shorthairs of the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries.
